In the past we had an article about the Power of the Baby Blue’s.  It was a look back at teams that have worn a baby blue uniform and we also ranked them.  Here on the IHSBCA website we like our uniform and uniform combinations.  Besides the article on the Baby Blue’s we have also had articles about the MLB city connect jerseys.  As we approach the 250th birthday of the United States.  Baseball itself is closing in on its 150th birthday, as 2025 was year 149.   Old school baseball (in terms of uniforms) is the traditional white for home and gray for the road.  That just doesn’t work in this day and age.

There is a movement away from the traditional gray road jerseys.  Teams are trying to be as unique as they can get and one of the reasons for this is to sell more items in the team store.  You have some teams that have flat out deleted the gray uniform from their rotation (Seattle and Tampa Bay).  When we look at what teams can do with variety, we first have to look at what they are working with.  Twelve teams have some version of red in their team colors and eighteen teams have some version of blue in their team colors.  Ironically, ten teams use both red and blue in their color scheme.  Since blue is the most popular color of teams it is no surprise that we are seeing an emergence of the Baby Blues coming back.  That is why this article is called Baby Blues part Deux.

There were 9.5 teams that used a baby blue jersey in 2025 (we will not count any baby blue combo for Father’s Day).  You might wonder how we have a .5 team, well that is because for this article we will half count the Minnesota Twins city connect jersey as a half baby blue and they will come in as the honorable mention on the list of ranking the best baby blue jersey for 2025.  A ranking done by one person’s individual opinion.

Who Wore it Best?

Honorable Mention:  As mentioned earlier, the honorable mention award goes to the Minnesota Twins and their 2025 City Connect jersey.  This jersey gets the HM spot because it isn't a true Baby Blue.  As far as City Connect jerseys it possible could be picked in the top 5 (need another post on that), but this post is about the Baby Blues.  So, since it is not a full baby blue it gets the honorable mention spot.

#9 Tampa Bay Rays

This version has the "sunburst" logo on the left side of the chest, which is what I do not like about the design.  If it would have kept the Rays across the chest it probably would have been ranked higher.  It would certainly be ranked higher if it had the Devil Rays across the chest.

If Tampa Bay can make some upgrades on the design then it could move up on the list.  The team does have other colors they can incorporate into the design, but they choose not to use them.  Maybe it is for the best, they should just stick with a black or purple jersey.  As far as we are concerned this is just too plain.

#8 Milwaukee Brewers

Brewers unveil City Connect uniforms

Are the Milwaukee Brewers a Major League Baseball team or a beer league softball team?  Really, Brew Crew!  I get it Milwaukee is a beer town but they had really nice jerseys in the past but this is not an improvement, it is moving in the wrong direction.  There isn't much on this jersey that is appealing.  The font for Brew Crew is weird, it is like you are trying to replicate those old futuristic jerseys from the 1990's that were awful.  At least they are not in the 9th spot on this list.  That said, I'm starting to rethink my order, especially if I keep looking at this jersey.

#7 Kansas City Royals

The Kansas City Royals are one of the original teams that would use the baby blue uniforms.  That is why it was so hard for me to put them in the 7th spot on this list.  When I see the Royal's jersey I think of Frank White, George Brett and the Quiz and Sabs (Saberhagen and Quisenberry).  This 2025 version is just too plain.  Last year they had the navy outline around the team name, which gave it a little pop.  I get it, the original version was just white as well, but at least they incorporated the navy bars on the sleeves.  If you have additional colors, then you need to use them.  There is still hope for KC, just a few minor adjustments and they can be back in my top 5.

#6 Washington Nationals

This jersey grew on my a little bit.  Maybe it was becasue the original City Connect jersey the Nationals used was just flat out terrible it makes this version look outstanding.  Here is a great example of what I was talking about with the Royal's jersey.  See how there is a navy outline on the DC, it just gives it a little pop.  Now I hate the DC logo, it just reminds me of something a high school team would use for a logo.  A high school team that doesn't have a graphic arts department in the school.  That said, I do like the design in the actual jersey (background).  This one has potential.  At least one thing in the organization has potential of moving up.

#5 Chicago Cubs

Cubs unveil new baby blue jersey for 2025

2025 marked the first time since 1981 that the Chicago Cubs utilized the baby blue in their uniforms.  This was long overdue.  That is why our top 5 starts with the Cubbies.  Chicago (NL) decided to get rid of their navy City Connect jerseys that they have been using and replaced it with this alternate jersey.  I did like the Cubbies City Connect jersey, but this is certainly an upgrade.  I am a uniform guy and this one speaks to me.  These debuted on April 5, and then were worn 12 more times, all for Friday home games at Wrigley Field. They perhaps aren't destined to be a classic powder blue look, but they are a definite upgrade from the City Connects.  Could it or should it be higher possibly.  It might be my distain for everything Chicago that puts them 5th on the list, however they are 5th nonetheless

#4 Philadelphia Phillies

When it comes to uniforms, the Phillies usually do things the right way.  Like the Kansas City Royals, they were one of the originals to wear a baby blue (powder blue) uniform.  In 2018, they brought back the baby blues from the 70's-80's and nobody should be surprised that the Phillies returned to be a force in the National League.  It was all about the uniforms, nothing to do with Bryce Harper and that pitching staff.  The Phillies were 6-1 in the baby blue uniforms in the 2025 regular season.  Maybe they should be wearing these uniforms more.  Being ranked 4th isn't bad at all, but why is one of the original OG's not in the top 3?  Well, original is great, but sometimes you just need a little flash to be more modern.  I love the PHILS and almost all of the uniforms styles, but the baby blues could use just a litle touch up.  Again, 4th isn't bad.

#3 Texas Rangers

3 Bold Rangers Predictions for 2025

In the 3rd position of the Top 3 is the Texas Rangers.  You can just tell by the image above, they are excited to be in this position.  At least they are finalist for something in 2025.  I love just about everything when it comes to this uniform combo.  I would probably have gone with a navy hat to give a little contrast, just like how the navy batting helmet in the image shows the contrast to the baby blue jersey.  They incorporate the red/white and navy very well with the jersey.  If I had to adjust one thing with the jersey it would be having the name Rangers in red, outlined in white instead of being white outlined in red.  Again, I am a jersey/uniform snob.  I just really like a red on the baby blue.

#2 St. Louis Cardinals

The number two pick is a perfect example of that dominate red color on top of the baby jersey base jersey.  The Cardianls wore powder blue as its primary road uniforms from 1976-1984. They returned as a road alternate in 2019, with the Cardinals rocking powder blue for every Saturday road game. There is something cool about the fact that the Cardinals still wear what was a road uniform exclusively for away games.   There isn't much to dislike with this uniform.  Classic look, contrasting red hat, incorporating multiple colors........ this is a good look.  I'm not a fan of the yellow in the color scheme, but the bird on the bat is such an iconic logo for the Cardinals it would be going too far for them to change.  So, we have the St. Louis Cardinals coming in as the runner up.  However, on a side note............. Do you notice all the midwest team on the list (St. Louis, Chicago, Milwaukee, Kansas City and the HM Twins).

Top moments from Cardinals' winning streak

#1 Toronto Blue Jays

And the winner is....... The Toronto Blue Jays.  They might not have won the World Series but this isn't a bad consolation price being the #1 ranked baby blue jersey of 2025 on this person's list.  Because of the playoffs the Blue Jays were able to put this jersey/uniform on full display for the world to see.  Now I know I said I love how a solid red pops on the base of the baby blues and I still believe in that.  However, there is just something about the navy/white of the Blue Jays on the base baby blue that speaks to me.  It also has that little splash of red in the bird head.  Plus, many of the Toronto players would wear some accessory that was red (like below with Vlad and the arm sleeve).  Whether it is a wrist band or arm sleeve that is red just gives the whole look some pop.  Just like the image below that shows the contrasting navy batting helmet the team used a contrasting navy hat for the field as well.  Put it all together and this is a winning combination and that is why the Toronto Blue Jays are the winner of Who Wore the Baby Blues the best list for 2025.  When it comes to jerseys and uniforms Toronto usually does it right, that is except for their City Connect Jerseys..................... but that is for another post.

We hope you liked this post about the Baby Blues and please do not be afraid to leave us a comment on your thoughts.  The list is just one man's opinion and we don't expect everyone to agree, so if you disagree let us know and share your thoughts.  Maybe if enough Cub fans leave comments they can move up on the list.  You never know.
