Over the course of the game of baseball there have been many ceremonial first pitches thrown before a game.  Some of the pitches hit the mark, while others, lets say land somewhere else.  The first ever ceremonial first pitch in major league baseball was thrown by President William Howard Taft on April 14, 1910.  Taft was also known for starting the 7th inning stretch, by the way.  For many years this honor was bestowed on those in politics (Presidents, Governors, Mayors, foreign dignitaries, etc.), however over the years it evolved into former players, celebrities and others.
One of the most famous 1st pitches happened in 2001 when then President George W. Bush threw out the first pitch at game 3 of the World Series at Yankee Stadium.  This just happened to be just months after the tragedy of 9/11.  Some first pitches have little twists in them, like when the Texas Rangers had former player Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez throw the first pitch from behind home to 2nd base.

(The video to the left talks about the significance of the event and the words of wisdom that Yankee great Derek Jeter gave the President before the pitch)

However, this post isn't about the best first pitches of all time or about the most important pitches of all time.  We will dive into some of the worst 1st pitches in major league history.  Some say that playing baseball isn't hard, but after seeing some of these bad throws, we now have evidence that it isn't that easy.

One of Indiana's own, Drew Storen of Brownsburg and Class of 2023 Hall of Fame, was part of a terrible first pitch.  No, he wasn't the one throwing the pitch, he was acting as the catcher in this event.  Well, he tried to be a catcher.  While playing for the Washington Nationals, Drew was chosen to catch the first pitch being thrown by NBA superstar John Wall of the Washington Wizards.
